"Blackman Taekwondo has helped my son Casey in just the short time he has been in it. He started a couple of months ago and has been enjoying every minute of it. Since starting he has done better in school and continues to grow as a person. Thank you Blackman Taekwondo."-Jamie & John Foster
"We love it here. My son started earlier this year and we are glad we did. He has learned time management, equipment management, self respect and better focus. When he started, he had daily foot/calf pain from a bruised growth plate. Within 6 weeks of classes with the Blackman's, his pain was gone. This morning, he led both me and my husband in a "stretching routine". He is excited about going to classes, and asks to practice at home. He asked so often that we made a small "gym" in our garage for stretching and practice. The Blackman's are involved, checking in with me often and guiding our son to believe in himself. He loves all the instructors and has made several good friends. We recommend Blackman's".-Ruth Cummings
"My grandson has been at Blackman Taekwando for five years and I believe it is the best Martial Arts school in town. The Blackmans are caring and professional and take a personal interest in every student and help them in every way to achieve their goals. Their "Best of City" awards tell the story."-Cleo Gonzales
"I wanted to thank you for being such excellent teachers! This recent belt testing experience for Violeta taught her many lessons (me too) that we have been talking about. She was excited and nervous going into the test and then she started to doubt herself and did not want to go the day of. She shed a few tears on the way to testing. She was afraid to fail. She thought she would be the only student who would fail. She knew that the self-defense stances were not yet mastered, but what I saw is that she could identify for herself her weakness and what she had to work on. This allowed me to have a conversation about failure, making mistakes, about risk, about trying, why we have to practice and not giving up. I shared with her times that I failed or made mistakes when I was a child, athlete or even today when I can sometimes fall short of goals in my work and life. During the individual portion of the test at the self-defense stances, you may remember that Master Blackman, had to correct her and give her some guidance and offer some encouragement. How you did it, the words you chose (kind, firm, encouraging), the expectations you maintained was exactly what she needed. After the test was over, she knew she did well overall and could have done better on the self-defense stances - most importantly, her attitude had changed! At the belt ceremony, there was a little confusion on getting her belt to her and I have to admit that I started to become nervous myself and thought perhaps she wasn’t moving up in rank. This was another lesson. She finally got up and went to an instructor to ask if she had been missed. This allowed us to talk about self-advocacy, that sometimes she needs to speak up for herself and ask questions or clarification. Mr. Tim was the one that evaluated her and his comments reinforced what I hoped, he told her to have confidence in herself, that she has mastered a lot skills, and that she just needs to keep practicing. Master Blackman, your comments during the belt ceremony were spot on, she was really listening and taking in the lessons of perseverance, focus, practice, confidence, learning, making mistakes and achieving goals. I just wanted to take a moment to share with you that this testing/belt ceremony were formative for Violeta’s growth mentally and emotionally. Thank you for teaching such important life skills and life lessons. It allowed me to talk with her in a new way and to share my own experiences with her. After the ceremony she said, “Mom, I really want to work hard in Tae Kwon Do, so I am going to be committed to my classes now." Thank you for the work you do with my children and all our children!"-Carmen Lopez
"I took Taekwondo under Mr. Blackman for the 2 years I lived in New Mexico. I'm currently taking Taekwondo (in my 10th year) in Arizona. I must say that Mr. Blackman is the best instructor I've ever had the opportunity to learn under. His program contains the material needed to be a great martial artist, as well as a great person outside of the training hall." -Anthony Nguyen
"My son had very little self esteem prior to his enrollment to Blackman Taewondo Academy. Now, thanks to all those at the Academy who have encouraged my son to stay with the program, and to be patient with his growth, my son now has a new found confidence. I am thankful we enrolled in your school!!!"-Nina Perazic
"I began training at BlackmanTaekwondo in 1997 when I was 7yrs old and to this day I believe that Blackman Taekwondo is the best in the business. Mr. and Mrs. Blackman and the instructors are dedicated, knowledgeable, and care about their students both on and off the mat. The dojan is full of positive energy, with everyone working hard and motivating each other to improve. The experiences I have had training at Blackman Taekwondo are invaluable and have no doubt had a huge positive impact on my life. I cannot imagine a better, more professional place to train. -Rachel Wasson
"While visiting family in June 1998, my daughter and I attended my nephews promotion test at Blackman TKD Academy. We were so impressed with the students and the Blackmans, we decided to try this wonderful sport. Unfortunately we could not join Blackman TKD as we live in Denver, but the Blackmans have been very supportive in our quest and have always welcomed us into their Dojang and have made us feel as though we were a part of their TKD family."-Rex Wells
"As a military family, we've been assigned to three different areas since our kids have started Tae Kwon Do. At each location we've done a lot of "shopping" for the right Do Jong and can truly state Blackman's Tae Kwon Do Academy is the absolutely the best we've ever found. They provide just the right mix of discipline, seriousness and fun in a well-run, structured environment. They don't seem to put the school's emphasis on "chasing the belts" but rather on the development of the students."-Dennis, Kim, Katie and Michael Jones
"Mr. Blackman is a great instructor, and a true friend. His instruction from when I was 9 until I left for college not only influenced my Tae Kwon Do life, but all other aspects of my life as well. Through the martial arts, I learned countless lessons, not the least of which included self dicipline, improved health, confidence, and, of course, the ability to defend myself.
In short, I would not be who I am today without the martial arts, and the martial arts would not be what they are to me without Mr. and Mrs. Blackman, and the whole TKD family."-Jonathan Millhollon
