Mr. Blackman is a great instructor, and a true friend. His instruction from when I was 9 until I left for college not only influenced my Tae Kwon Do life, but all other aspects of my life as well. Through the martial arts, I learned countless lessons, not the least of which included self dicipline, improved health, confidence, and, of course, the ability to defend myself.
In short, I would not be who I am today without the martial arts, and the martial arts would not be what they are to me without Mr. and Mrs. Blackman, and the whole TKD family.

I have been a student at Blackman Tae Kwon Do for over 6 years. I am 53 years old, attend class twice per week or better, and am currently a 3rd GUP red belt. I originally decided to take Tae Kwon Do because I had a desire since the age of 9 or 10 to learn martial arts. When I decided to engage in an exercise program, prompted by my wife, I thought Tae Kwon Do would be an interesting alternative to jogging, jazzercise, or going to a health club. If I had only know how much fun it was going to be, or how many health benefits I would gain, I would have started years earlier. In fact, I will list my benefits below:
* Greater flexibility due to the stretching exercises
* Greater confidence in my ability to defend myself in chancy situations
* Greater self-control and more freedom from mental anguish
* Greater physical strength and agility
* Many new friends and acquaintances
* A sense of personal accomplishment for having attained proficiency in Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido
* A sense of community within Blackman's Tae Kwon Do - the teaching, and working with other students is very rewarding
* Better overall health - relative freedom from chronic back pain
* Improved outlook, better, happier life
* Better understanding of human nature - both good and bad
In short, I am experiencing an improved quality of life, more energy, and greater happiness. I intend to practice martial arts for as long as my body will allow. And judging from the effect I have seen, that could be for a considerable period. I find that Mr. and Mrs. Blackman have, due to their personal commitment to Tae Kwon Do, and enjoyment of the sport, created an ideal atmosphere to study the art. Their enthusiasm and humor have contributed to my enjoyment, and judging from the growth of the school, to the enjoyment of others.

As a military family, we've been assigned to three different areas since our kids have started Tae Kwon Do. At each location we've done a lot of "shopping" for the right Do Jong and can truly state Blackman's Tae Kwon Do Academy is the absolutely the best we've ever found. They provide just the right mix of discipline, seriousness and fun in a well-run, structured environment. They don't seem to put the school's emphasis on "chasing the belts" but rather on the development of the students.

While visiting family in June 1998, my daughter and I attended my nephews promotion test at Blackman TKD Academy. We were so impressed with the students and the Blackmans, we decided to try this wonderful sport. Unfortunately we could not join Blackman TKD as we live in Denver, but the Blackmans have been very supportive in our quest and have always welcomed us into their Dojang and have made us feel as though we were a part of their TKD family.
I was introduced to TKD during a very low point of my life. I was sinking into depression and despair. It's been a long road, and although life is still not a bed of roses, it is much better, and I attribute it to family, TKD, and my classmates. TKD has been a God send.
My daughter has had 4 eye surgeries and has had to wear thick glasses since the age of one. She's lived with ridicule and teasing about her glasses and other things for years until her self confidence was very low. Always seemed to retreat to her shell where she could hide. TKD has helped break that shell of doubt. She has blossomed into a beautiful young lady who smiles a lot more now, enjoys life more, and has more faith in her abilities. TKD has created a bond between her and I that would not have happened otherwise. We speak a common language now. She is my training partner and my good friend. How often does that happen?

I took Taekwondo under Mr. Blackman for the 2 years I lived in New Mexico. I'm currently taking Taekwondo (in my 10th year) in Arizona. I must say that Mr. Blackman is the best instructor I've ever had the opportunity to learn under. His program contains the material needed to be a great martial artist, as well as a great person outside of the training hall.
